Spike  is inspired by the many images that the word invokes: a very large nail, a scoring play  in volleyball, the spikes found on shoes (mountain climbing, golf, high heels, etc…), a punk London haircut and the name of a large dog with a leather collar. Written for Christopher Taylor, Spike was premiered by him on the April 27, 2003 Musiqa concert at the Rothko Chapel in Houston, TX.
